Framework Laptops
Product: Framework is a tech company that creates laptops equipped with easily interchangeable parts that the consumer can choose to upgrade, replace or customize. Framework seeks to eliminate the need of buying a new laptop ever again.
Insight: We generate about 50 million tons of e-waste every year. That’s equivalent to throwing out 1000 laptops every single second, meaning e-parts that aren’t being recycled properly are adding to the pile-ups in foreign drop zones.
Idea: As Framework pushes its interchangeable parts into the market, the company and its consumers are pushing even further. We’re repurposing e-waste from the world’s biggest drop zones, taking Framework’s fight against e-waste to the next level. The resources we need to make change happen are at the end of another e-product’s life. Together, we can break the cycle and assemble the future.
We’re creating new chips, processors, screens, etc. to add to our product mix, establishing a new “sustainable parts” line.

Look out for plexiglass boxes filled with collected e-waste parts. The boxes include coordinates from the harvested area.

Meet the Frame.workers. You’ll see them at the plexiglass boxes, using the parts to build monitors for phase 3.

The emptied plexiglass boxes will be turned into drop boxes open to the public. When your devices burn out or you just don’t want them anymore, donate them.
Every part counts and will be used to create the new Frame.work products.
The Frame.workers have now built monitors out of the material in the plexiglass boxes. The monitors will stand alone next to the empty drop boxes and will serve as a count of how many pounds of e-waste is being saved from the drop zones.
